Forbes Korea rank the “Top 40 Celebrities” of Korea

25 Feb

In celebration of their 9th year of establishment, Forbes Korea has reported this year’s list of the top 40 ‘Power Celebrities’, and Girls’ Generation has topped the list for the second year in a row.

‘Celebrity’ refers to an individual who is widely known by the masses, and Forbes takes 100 of these celebrities and ranks them based on income, influence, fame, and professionalism.

This format is the same that Forbes in the United States uses for their ‘Celebrity 100′ list, and the list is reported on an annual basis.

Girls’ Generation claimed the top two spots under the categories of most articles published, the highest number of television advertisements, TV appearances, and more. Additionally, the #1 celebrity most wanted by broadcasting companies is none other than Girls’ Generation, and the girls shot 36 television advertisements last year alone, and their album ‘The Boys‘ released late last year has sold over 380,000 copies.

The interesting thing to note about this year’s list is that 10 of the top 20 celebrities are idol singers. Here’s the breakdown of the idols in the top 20: Girls’ Generation in at #1, Big Bang at # 2, IU at #3, KARA at #4, B2ST at #9, 2PM at #11, JYJ at #13, TVXQ at #15, Super Junior at #16, and T-ARA at #17. The reason why these idols have made the list is because they have played a huge part in spreading K-pop awareness all over the globe. Flash mobs from New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris, and more began requesting performances from their favorite K-pop artists in their home countries, and cover-dance teams emulating K-pop choreographies have grown in number.

The only celebrities from last year’s list who made it within the top 10 this year are Olympic Gold medalist figure skater Kim Yuna, actor/singer Lee Seung Gi, and Manchester United soccer player Park Ji Sung. Of all the celebrities, Kim Yuna has had the most media influence.

The list of Top 20 is as follows :

1.) Girls’ Generation

2.) Big Bang

3.) IU

4.) KARA

5.) Kim Yuna (World Champion Figure Skater & Olympic Gold Medalist)

6.) Lee Seung Gi (Actor / Singer)

7.) Park Ji Sung (Midfielder for Manchester United & former Captain of Korean National Soccer Team)

8.) Kim Tae Hee (Actress / Model)

9.) B2ST

10.) Park Tae Hwan (Champion Swimmer & Olympic Gold Medalist)

11.) 2PM

12.) Kang Ho Dong (Comedian / MC)

13.) JYJ

14.) Shin Se Kyung (Actress)

15.) TVXQ

16.) Super Junior

17.) T-ARA

18.) Shin Soo Choo (Major League Baseball Player for Cleveland Indians, Silver at World Baseball Classic, Gold at Asian Games)

Big Bang first concept image for upcoming album

6 Feb

On the heels of Se7en‘s triumphant return last night, YG Entertainment is back updating their YG-Life blog with the first concept photo for “Fantastic Baby” one of seven new tracks from Big Bang‘s upcoming album titled ‘Alive‘!

Creatively using an oxygen mask to cover his face, Big Bang’s T.O.P uses his trademark peircing gaze to set the tone for what will surely be an epic comeback. Looks like the rumors of green hair, may in fact be partially true. His hair looks more blue than green to us though.

In other news, Big Bang’s solo concert, the ‘2012 Big Show‘, is officially sold out. Now fans are resorting to resellers to get a chance to be the first to see Big Bang return to the Korean music scene.

Beast “BEAUTIFUL SHOW” in Seoul

6 Feb

Performing to a crowd of 12,000 jubilant fans, B2ST kicked off their ‘Beautiful Show’ world tour on February 4th at Seoul’s Olympic Park!

Although this is their third solo concert, it marks the beginning of their very first world tour. The members performed a total of 27 songs, stunning the crowd with their live vocals and dance skills. Many fans agreed that while B2ST electrified with their dance numbers, it was their ballads that stole the show.

The concert began with exciting hits like “Special”, “Soom”, and “Shock”, followed by a rock version of “Lights Go On Again”. The opening set then gave way to B2ST’s other songs, including their latest tracks “I Knew It” and Junhyung‘s solo, “Living Without You”.

The members put on individual performances as well. Yoseob sang “Mom”, the song he performed on ‘Immortal Song 2‘, while Doojoon and Dongwoon collaborated for “When the Door Closes”.

Kikwang and Hyunseung also performed a slow-tempo track called “Let It Snow”, driving fans wild with its high melody, sexy choreography, fireworks, confetti, and a flash of skin.

Yoseob and Junhyung then emerged on a giant mirror ball, and flew over the audience during “Thanks To”

The members reunited for “Edelweiss”, during which they invited a female fan onto the stage and presented her with songs and a teddy bear.

A parade of hit after hit followed, and the show was finally brought to a close with “Beautiful” and “VIU”.

The members said goodbye to the fans as they thanked them for attending the concert:

Yoseob: “I was so excited I couldn’t sleep yesterday. I want to thank everyone who came today.”

Dongwoon: “It’s been a year since we were last here at Olympic Park. Since the nature of being a singer is so unpredictable, I wondered if I would be able to stand on this stage again — but we were here today, and I want to thank all the fans.”

Kikwang: “I want to thank you all for filling up the seats like this. I hurt my ankle, so I hadn’t been able to show you much of myself on stage. Today, I wrapped a bandage around my ankle and stood on stage for you all. I’m really thankful.”

Doojoon: “Last year when we performed here, I hoped to be able to stand on this stage again. I’m so happy that it has come true.”

In addition to all the fans, girl group A Pink and actor Lee Hyun Woo were also spotted in the audience.

B2ST delivered a strong first show to their world tour, and will undoubtedly be bringing the same high quality performance to the their international fans.
